Online Diet Myth 1.

Online diets are scams and do not work.

This is the biggest myth about online diets. The competitiveness of the online community actually prevents online diets that don't work from lasting long. A "survival of the fittest" type of environment so to speak. If a useless online diet or a scam is promoted it is quickly exposed and weeded out by the online community. There are some online diets that are better than others but again that is subject to each individual needs and likes. Is a Corvette better than a Hummer? Depends on the needs of the individual consumer. Online Diets fall under the same principle. An active 20 year old would not have the same weight loss needs as a sedentary 50 year old. Both could find a beneficial online diet but most likely not choose the same one.

Online Diet Myth 2.

You inherited fat genes and so you can't lose weight.

The old saying that you can pick your fiends but it can't pick your relatives is true but your relatives weight issues are not your problem. Genetics do play a small role in your metabolic rate but you play a much bigger role in deciding what your everyday metabolic rate will be. You decide what you eat and how much and you also decide how active you are going to be, not some dead ancestor. Loosing weight is really up to you so should not ever use this excuse.

Carbohydrates are not good for you.

This myth is promoted by some very famous high protein diets such as the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet. These poplar diets and others like them push a diet that is rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. these diets initially produce weight loss in first weeks of months but you soon tire of the limited food groups you can eat and when you go back to eating normally again you regain your losses and then some.

Online Diet Myth 4.

Dietary fat is bad.

You may have been led to believe that you need to stop eating foods that contain fat in order to lose weight. This idea is not accurate because not all fat is bad. In fact some fat is good for you. You need to avoid trans fats and saturated fat, but you also need to increase the intake of good fats such as polyunsaturated and Omega- 3 fats that can be found in foods like fish, olive oil and avocados.

Online Diet Myth 5.

Skipping a meal or two is a good way to lose some weight.

Not so... in fact this could have a reverse effect since it will lower your metabolism and mange it even more difficult to lose weight. regular meals are important. Need to concentrate on foods that are good for you and stay away from junk food or fast food. Think in terms of more salads, nuts, veggies, and fruits and less snacking and deserts.

Avoid foods that are white in color.

This misconception may have been started because of balloon bead but a lot of healthy foods are white. Milk, pears, cream of wheat... the list goes on and on. Decide what you eat based on a foods content and not is color.

Online Diet Myth 7.

Grapefruit is the miracle weight loss food.

This idea no basis in reality and therefore is one of the biggest misconceptions around. Grapefruits are rich in lycopene-a good source of ingredients that can help provide nutrient and care for the cellular health-prevents cancer and heart diseases and should be a part of your healthy diet but not the only thing you eat. Remember, a balanced diet is what is important.
